Slovak Government adopted the 2011 National Programme of Official Development Aid of Slovakia

On Wednesday 26 January, the Slovak Government adopted the 2011 National Programme of Official Development Aid of the Slovak Republic. This key document follows primarily from the Government’s Programme Manifesto for 2010–2014 and contains a number of qualitative changes. It reduces the number of priority countries and narrows the scope of sectors addressed. These measures should reduce fragmentation of the aid and facilitate public awareness of the contribution made by the Slovak development aid.

Development assistance concerns us!

According to a public opinion poll carried out in September 2009, 44% of those polled agree that Slovakia’s contribution to the official development assistance budget should increase. Only 29% of respondents consider it too much. The proposed state budget for the years 2010 – 2012 sees the amount designated for Slovak-implemented bilateral assistance projects decrease by 60% in comparison with the 2009 budget.

Slovakia will provide humanitarian aid to Montenegro

Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Ministry of Interior has immediately responded to the catastrophic situation in Montenegro hit by floods and agreed to provide material humanitarian aid worth 124 000 EUR. The aid consists of electronics (electric generators, lighting) and materials needed for rescue works. Material humanitarian assistance has been accepted by Montenegro and it will be transferred into country in the upcoming days.
